Enhancing energy efficiency at Filey School
In the seaside town, Filey School is undergoing a decarbonisation project, to improve the thermal and energy efficiency of the school.
The construction and building work was awarded to NU Construction who we have collaborated with on many projects before. Crucial Engineering secured the contract to remove the existing outdated steel windows that have been in since the school was built! Then install high-performance, thermally broken, energy-efficient glass and aluminium windows.
This project involved a collaboration between our aluminium and glazing departments, our talented team of fabricators and glaziers fabricated all the aluminium in house, which was supplied by Seniors Architectural, and hand-made the double-glazed units to create the perfect combination.
The plan for this decarbonisation project is to reduce carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, one of the ways the school planned on doing this was by upgrading key windows around the building.
We began our work on site throughout the February school holiday’s to help minimise disruption and ensuring there would be windows in the classrooms by the time the students were back at school.
Double-glazed units provide superior insulation properties in comparison to single glazed. The gap between the two panes of glass, along with the insulating layer of air or gas between them, helps to reduce the amount of heat that escapes from the inside of the building to the outside. For businesses and domestic projects alike, this means significant energy savings.
This Easter we will visiting the school again to install a double louvred door, a double door set and a single fire exit door, within the holidays to minimise disruption for the students.
