The Qualities and Benefits of Double Glazed Units:
Improved energy efficiency
The design of double glazed units provides superior insulation properties in comparison to single glazing. The gap between the two panes of glass, along with the insulating layer of air or gas between them, helps to reduce the amount of heat that escapes from the inside of the building to the outside. For businesses and domestic projects alike, this means significant energy savings and lower heating and cooling bills for the proprietors.
Reduced noise pollution
The layer of air or gas between the two panes of glass also helps to reduce the amount of noise that can pass through the window, making double glazed units an effective way to reduce noise pollution from outside. This makes them an attractive option for any buildings that are situated on busy roads, in the centre of towns and cities or near airports.
Increased security
By nature and design, double glazed units are resilient and tough. This makes them more difficult to break than single-pane windows, creating a more secure option for homes and businesses. Additionally, architects and project managers have the option of mechanically toughened or tempered glass on buildings or projects for which an even higher level of safety or security is a requirement.
Reduced condensation
The insulating layer of air or gas between the two panes of glass helps to reduce the amount of condensation that forms on windows. This can help to prevent mould and mildew growth, which, if left to develop can be harmful to health.
Enhanced comfort
Double glazed units help to maintain a more consistent indoor temperature, which can lead to a more comfortable living or working environment. They can also help to reduce drafts and cold spots near windows. Managing indoor temperatures is essential for organisations like hospitals, schools and health centres due to their vulnerable visitors and occupants.
The Types of Double Glazed Units Supplied by Crucial
Soft Coat Glass
Identified for its super energy efficient qualities, the microscopic coating assists by letting heat in from the outside whilst also reflecting any heat generated inside back into a building. It is used for the inner pane of a double-glazed unit.
Toughened Glass
Also called tempered glass, it can be up to x5 stronger than ordinary glass. It is engineered by subjecting ordinary glass to high temperatures and then cooled rapidly.
Laminated Glass
A type of safety glass, laminated glass holds itself together, if shattered. This is facilitated by engineering a sheer layer of plastic between two thin panes of glass.
Annealed Glass
A more economic choice than toughened glass, annealed glass is thermally treated to relieve any internal stresses but is softer than tempered or toughened glass. Ideal for customers with a budget and those who want to cut, shape, or finish it themselves.
